Expert Sewer Repairs In Middletown, NY
Sewer lines carry the waste from your home or building and route it into the municipal sewer system. The lines that connect your home or building to the main sewer system are usually referred to as “lateral” lines. These lines are the responsibility of the home or building owner from which they originate. If you’re having sewer and drain problems it’s a good idea to call a professional who can inspect your sewer laterals to pin point the problem with your sewer system.
United Sewer & Septic is a septic and sewer services company based out of Middletown, NY and serving Orange County Rockland County, and Sullivan County, New York. We specialize in sewer repair services such as fixing leaking sewer lines, removing clogs from sewer lines, replacing corroded or damaged sewer lines, and more. If your plumbing problem involves the lateral sewer line from your home or building to the municipal sewer main we’ll be able to help you.
How Do We Repair Sewer Line Issues?
We start all of our sewer line repairs with a visual inspection of the area so we can get an idea of how you’re system might be laid out and so we can locate any entry points so we can send our camera down your line. Using state-of-the-art sewer and drain camera technology we can get a high definition image of what the inside of your sewer pipes look like.
The sewer camera can help us determine the condition of your existing sewer lines and also the exact location of the blockage or problems with the line. Once we know what we’re dealing with we can recommend the best course of action for repair.
We’re Looking For:
- Tree roots clogging the lines
- Clogs due to fat, oil, or grease (FOG)
- Sagging sewer pipes (or bellied pipes)
- Heavy construction or earth movements close to or over your sewer lines.
- Inferior materials failing like clay or orangeburg piping.
- Corrosion of cast iron piping.
- Cracked or collapsed PVC sewer lines.
- Failed Orangeburg pipe
Repairing Clogged Sewer Lines
One of the most common issue we see with sewer lines is clogs. Sewer lines can get clogged for a number of reasons such as tree roots infiltrating the pipe (usually through a joint seam or a crack), flushable baby-wipes, feminine hygiene products, and fats, oils, and grease. If you pour cooking fat down your kitchen sink drain you’re almost guaranteed to require the services of a plumber to fix a clog in your drain line eventually.
To repair sewer clogs don’t use chemicals! They very rarely work and some of them are very corrosive and dangerous to handle. Professional plumbers use a machine called a hydro jetter to clean out sewer lines. Using high pressure water and a special spinning nozzle we can insert the jetter into your line and it will literally shred up all of the materials clogging your line. The jetter can blow through dirt, mud, tree roots, baby wipes, fat and oil, and more.
If your pipes aren’t cracked, corroded, or damaged then jetting out the lines is usually the best course of repair.
Repairing Cracked, Broken, or Corroded Sewer Lines
If during a camera inspection we find that your sewer lateral is corroded, cracked, broken, collapsed, or sunk, then it’s usually time to have the line replaced. There are a few ways this can be done including digging up the line and replacing it or a less intrusive repair called a “trenchless” sewer repair.
Our experienced technicians can repair all types of sewer lines including cast iron, clay, and PVC. If the affected line is your sewer lateral coming from the city sewer system to your home or building it’s usually a pretty straight run of pipe and fairly easy to inspect and repair. If the affected pipes are sewer or drain lines located within your home, in a concrete slab, or even a commercial building then it can be more difficult to repair.

These Are The Methods Of Sewer And Drain Line Repair We Use:
Depending on the complexity of the lines being repaired, there are different repair options we can turn to that will be more effective than another.
Dig, Expose & Repair: If the affected sewer piping is outside of your building then digging up and exposing the line or the specific section of line with the problem is an option. With a camera inspection we can pinpoint the exact location of the problems in your sewer system and if dig and repair is the best option for your situation.
Rather than dig up your yard and driveway or tear up the finished surfaces in your home or building then the “trenchless” method of pipe repair is an option. If after a camera inspection we determine a trenchless method is the way to go, we have a few different options available. The complexity of your sewer or drain system will be the deciding factor as to which method will be the best fit for your situation.
Inversion Pipe Repair: Inversion pipe relining is one of the most common methods of trenchless repair. It involves impregnating a flexible pipe lining with a specially formulated resin or epoxy. The liner is then pushed into the damaged pipe using compressed air. During the insertion the new liner is actually inverted (or pulled inside out) so the resin is now on the outside of the liner. When the liner is then filled with air it conforms to the inside of the existing “host” pipe and presses the epoxy into place. The epoxy resin bonds with the existing pipe wall and cures itself into a brand new seamless pipe.
Pull In Place Pipe Repair: Pull-in place is also an epoxy liner system but it’s better suited for sewer and drain pipes that have many 45° and 90° angles or junctions. It can be used to repair entire runs of pipe or just small sections, offering more flexibility. An epoxy-saturated felt liner is pulled into place where the pipe is leaking. Two small access points are needed to pull the liner into place. One access point is used to feed the liner into the pipe and the other is used to pull it through. Once the liner is in place we fill it with compressed air so it takes on the shape of the existing pipe and it then can be cured in place into a seamless new pipe.
Pipe Coating Repair: This method of repair is the ideal method for sewer lines and drain pipes that have many bends, or T and Y connections but they are much smaller diameter pipe. If you have 1″-2″ diameter piping that is leaking and it’s within your flooring or in your walls and not easily accessed without tearing up finished surfaces then this is an excellent choice.
